Overview:
Soccer Fitness is a 12-week program offered twice a year, from January to April and from September to December. Designed for autistic children and teens who need extra support, the program makes group sports more accessible by combining structure, flexibility, and encouragement. Each class welcomes a maximum of 8 participants, guided by multiple instructors and/or volunteers.
Benefits:
Standard, organized sports are often too rigid for autistic youth, but with the right approach, participation can bring tremendous benefits. Soccer Fitness helps children improve balance, speed, agility, flexibility, and endurance, while also developing social skills such as reading cues, turn-taking, and participating in group play. Positive reinforcement and individualized pacing allow participants to feel confident, process information at their own speed, and enjoy the sport without pressure.
Structure:
Sessions are led by passionate instructors and volunteers, many of whom are studying or have completed studies in related fields, or have personal connections to autism through family. The class is designed to be flexible: some participants may follow the drills and group activities, while others simply enjoy running, kicking the ball, or releasing energy. Warm-ups, fitness exercises, and adapted soccer drills are mixed with plenty of encouragement, creating an environment where every child can succeed.
Rules/Requirements:
*Registration is required prior to participation.
