Overview:
Our adapted Dance Class is a 12-week program offered twice a year, designed for autistic children and teens who need moderate to significant support. Each class welcomes 8-10 participants and maintains a 2:1 participant-to-staff ratio to provide a high level of care and encouragement.
Benefits:
Participants explore a variety of dance styles including jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, ballet, and creative dance. Dance helps develop rhythm, balance, coordination, and pattern recognition, while also encouraging turn-taking, listening skills, and creative expression. The program provides a joyful outlet for self-expression, interpersonal bonding, and confidence-building.
Structure:
The class is led by a professional teacher with over 30 years of dance experience, trained in Autism Movement Therapy and Positive Behavior Support. She is supported by a dedicated team of employees and volunteers. Many team members are studying or working in related fields such as social work, special education, and special care counselling.
